Teaching Textbooks 6
Creation to Christ blends biblical events with ancient world history, guiding students on a meaningful exploration from the dawn of time through the life of Jesus. With a dynamic mix of living books, hands-on activities, and faith-based learning, this program helps students connect deeply with the past through a biblical lens.
Students will explore civilizations such as Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greece, and Rome using resources like The Story of the Ancient World and Streams of History: Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome. Diana Waring’s engaging audio series, What in the World: Ancient Civilizations and the Bible, offers a lively overview of key historical moments.
Retelling and composition skills are developed through Charlotte Mason-style narrations—both oral and written—while students create a beautiful history notebook filled with timelines, copywork, illustrations, and research projects.
Art and history come together with Draw and Write Through History, where students learn to sketch famous scenes like Babylon’s Hanging Gardens, Roman chariots, and the Great Wall of China.
Each day, students will reflect on the Bible’s connection to historical events, memorizing and praying over selected Scripture. As they move through time, they’ll add to a “Prophecy Fulfillment Chart” that highlights how Old Testament prophecies point to Christ.
To make history even more memorable, students will take on creative projects such as baking ancient breads, crafting period costumes, and reenacting legendary events like Phidippides’ run from Athens to Sparta.
Take a journey through the lands of the Bible with A Child’s Geography: Explore the Holy Land. Through engaging storytelling and hands-on activities, students will discover the rich history and present-day culture of countries in the Middle East.
Travel through Turkey, Israel, Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan. Along the way, compare each country's ancient past with its modern-day life and traditions.
Students will participate in interactive activities such as narrating from “Field Notes,” mapping geographical features, and recording reflections in a personal travel journal.
Each stop along the journey also offers opportunities to pray for the people of that region while exploring their unique art, music, poetry, and traditional foods—deepening both cultural understanding and spiritual connection.
Creation to Christ uses a living books approach to science, combining rich literature, narration, Scripture connections, notebooking, and hands-on exploration. This engaging year of life science study shows how scientific discovery aligns with biblical truth.
Students will read captivating books that highlight God’s intricate design in nature. They’ll explore major biomes with Nature School, discover the habitats of 27 animals in Home, and learn about 60 fascinating creatures in God’s Big Book of Animals.
To reinforce learning, students will work through Nature School: The Workbook, filled with nature-themed games, puzzles, and short notebooking assignments that help them reflect on and record what they’ve discovered.
Using beautifully designed Creature Cards—created specifically to accompany God’s Big Book of Animals—students will log fun facts about each animal, including its name, day of creation, and a full-color photo. By the end of the year, they’ll have built a complete collection representing all 60 animals studied.
The study of life science continues with an introduction to human anatomy through The Illustrated Adventure in Human Anatomy. This full-color resource offers kid-friendly explanations and detailed illustrations of systems like the skeletal, muscular, respiratory, and circulatory systems—plus the brain, digestive system, and more.
To bring science to life, students will enjoy a variety of hands-on activities and experiments using the Creation to Christ: Science Kit and the Human Body: Anatomy Adventure Kit. These tools offer meaningful ways to interact with what they’re learning.
Activities include dissecting an owl pellet, digging for shark teeth, crafting a savanna diorama, building a model of the human body, simulating ocean layers, constructing a DNA strand, experimenting with optical illusions, and even making an edible ocean scene—just to name a few!
Students can dive into solid grammar instruction with Rod and Staff English. This text covers important grammar rules, punctuation, and writing mechanics.
For creative writing, the Writing and Rhetoric series offers a clear, step-by-step approach rooted in modeling quality literature. In Book 1: Fable, students develop skills like summarizing, descriptive writing, dialogue, and point of view. Book 2: Narrative I expands on this with story structure, narration, identifying main ideas, and crafting vivid scenes through dialogue and detail. This literature-based method helps students internalize good writing by reading and imitating excellent examples.
Spelling is taught through studied dictation, following the Charlotte Mason method. Students study short passages provided in the program, then write them out as the text is read aloud—reinforcing spelling, punctuation, and writing fluency all at once.
Memoria Press literature guides help students engage more deeply with what they read. These guides strengthen vocabulary, spelling, understanding, and writing skills. Each lesson features a word study to expand vocabulary. Comprehension questions push students to think about the text, pick out key ideas, and write thoughtful, clear responses—an important skill for any age. Writing helps develop thinking, and strong questions inspire both.
Creation to Christ offers a rich blend of poetry and visual art, inviting students to explore scenic verse through the medium of watercolor. Throughout the year, students will engage with the evocative poetry of Robert Frost, known for capturing the beauty of the New England landscape.
Students will read and reflect on Frost’s timeless poems while learning to recognize poetic elements such as mood, structure, rhyme, and rhythm. Weekly poetry readings provide insight into Frost’s life and work, while copywork and memorization help students connect personally with their favorite verses.
Through Paint Like a Poet!, students will bring poetry to life on canvas, using guided watercolor lessons to illustrate each poem. By year’s end, they’ll have created a beautiful portfolio of original artwork inspired by Frost’s words—a unique and lasting reflection of their journey through poetry and painting.
